Saturday: Charleston

Blowing Rock was only ever an overnighter so this morning we set off on our longest trip of this holiday - 4 1/2 hours to Charleston, SC.  We took our time and swapped frequently, arriving just after 4pm.

We’re staying in an Airbnb which makes a nice difference.  We’d definitely do it more but the problem is that well located Airbnb accommodation can be ridiculously pricey.  Anyway, we struck lucky with a small cottage in the historic part of Charleston.

Charleston is unlike anywhere we’ve visited in the US.  The history just seeps out of every corner.  

A few days ago we were worried we might not be able to come due to the hurricane but were assured by our hosts that everything was fine.  We particularly didn’t want to be those jerks who turn up on holiday in Maui or Rhodes when people are in desperate need of accommodation. But apart  from some fallen trees as we drove into town, Charleston seems quite unscathed so I think we’re ok.
