We went to the local wildlife park today (where we can also take Alfred) and the highlight for me was the wonderful stork sanctuary. There are a few wild storks nesting in manmade nests in the area where we live, but this stork was landing in a huge complex of fields set up for storks and herons to nest in safety - they can come and go as they please, but are protected from predators (I'm not sure what as they are so big). There were lots of nests, some on the ground and some on nesting platforms, with huge babies inside! It was lovely. There was a lot going on with both storks and herons continually flying in and out of the area. When I saw this one I couldn't believe the size of the wingspan - amazing!

Alfred had a wonderful time getting up (relatively) close to deer and generally enjoying the environment! :-)
