Derelict

Annan Harbour
Hard to imagine this area as it is now, with the disused buildings, derelict ships, silted harbour, when it was a thriving and very busy place of shipbuilding, commerce and fishing. I have added a picture I found to give some idea of what it was like once upon a time.

We first found this place many years ago when we were in search of the ‘other end’ of the Solway bridge. In the past we have walked the area to the sea and by the river and through the harbour itself. Changes have happened, but there are huge changes planned. The Annan Harbour Action Group have an ambitious vision of how it can become a Maritime Heritage Centre. One thing they want to do is buy this old warehouse and convert it into a Visitor Centre.

Anyway we often return to see how things are going . . . and to find the man with his little coffee van and his excellent coffee!

We were actually on our way to Powfoot to spend some time by the sea. It was a lovely sunny day and really too hot for doing much walking around so we sat in the sun, had a nice lunch at the Powfoot Hotel and walked a little by the sea. It’s a place we have grown very fond of and forget that it is not too far from us.
