Con Funk Shun - Got To Be Enough

Spent the day chilling at home and worked on a new mix. I’ve been wanting to mix this genre for a very long time and finally did it. Since DJing at my first 80s gig 10 years ago, I’ve been getting deeper into early 80s rnb and funk music. It’s always been on my radar since I was growing up. Dad was into Al Jarreau and singers from that era like Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, etc. When I was in uni I got into Prince in a big way and the Minneapolis sound.

Since DJing I got into Funkadelic, Parliament, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, the Whispers, the Chi-Lites and Aretha Franklin. Evelyn “Champagne” King tipped me over the edge. The first time I listened to Love Come Down, I was by myself, waiting in line to go up Tokyo Skytree and was blown away. I listened to that song about 15 times straight and just grooved while waiting. Other artists like D-Train, Teena Marie, Rene & Angela, Luther Vandross, George Benson and Herbie Hancock just came naturally to my playlists and it’s always my music of choice when I want to feel happy.

Have a listen here if you’re interested in getting down:
