Where the skies are so blue

That’s Alabama all right, though the morning started down at the very fabulous Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi. Obviously we looked at the boats and the marine environment but then sat for a good hour watching a film put together by WLOX (the local TV station) from their archive footage of Katrina. Hugely informative. The people who thought it probably wouldn’t be that bad. And then those who couldn’t do other than stay put.
Across the state line, through Mobile, glimpsing the USS Alabama and on to Fairhope. A very lovely place: like New England in Alabama. It had been established in 1894 as a model community, free from all forms of private monopoly. At heart is a belief in the land value tax - its greatest proponent being Henry George - we walked down to the lovely park named after him overlooking the sea. See the stuff we’re learning!
“Despite the ideals of the corporation, the town has transitioned from utopian experiment to artists' and intellectuals' colony to boutique resort and affluent suburb.” So says Wikipedia.
After our walk we lounged in the affluent boutique hotel pool* and talked to a couple from Florida - he has a sailboat! Which is cool, and Alzheimer’s which isn’t quite so much. We exchanged emails - he’s always wanted to come to Scotland.

*cheapest hotel yet. Tired decor is the Tripadvisor consensus. Breakfast included!
