Art therapy...
Thank you for all you lovely comments on yesterday's blip and for thinking of Alan.
He had a fairly settled night but was awake at 6am. That's usually the middle of the night to him. He let Vickie get him washed and dressed and wanted up to sit in his wheels to watch a film just before midday. A definite improvement on yesterday.
GP phoned for an update this morning. He's prescribed more diazepam to settle Alan if necessary. He also said if it is kidney stones it may help him relax enough to pass them. Discussed further diagnostic options. Only real option is to have him admitted to the medical ward at PRI and let them decided what needs looked at. Neither the GP or we are keen on that so it was agreed to see how things pan out today and speak again tomorrow.
He was much more settled for most of the day than yesterday then about 6pm he got quite agitated again. Wanted to go and lie on his bed but he was very jumpy and clearly in pain. He was due painkillers so he had those and settled a bit.
From various observations today and from Alan actually answering a question about where the pain is coming from, we are thinking it is definitely a urine infection / kidney stones. Will tell our new findings to the GP tomorrow and see what he suggests.
He was more settled again at bedtime so I hope he gets a decent sleep.
Spent a chunk of the day with Alan but when he was watching a film he wanted shot of me for a while is I spent an hour in the studio just doodling. Having a brush in my hand and letting the colours mix on various scraps of paper was enough to let some of the tension in my neck and shoulders drain away. I can see why art therapy is a thing.
Thankfully I remembered it's Alan's support worker Penny's birthday later this month, so I doodled these little flowers and put them on a card for her.
Now all I need to do is remember to give it to her on her birthday!
