We were going to go into Winchester but decided it was far too hot so drove to Chawton, a nearby village where Jane Austen spent the last six years of her life. We started out in the cottage she lived in- very well looked after and interesting property staffed entirely by volunteers. Had a delicious breakfast in the coffee shop next door snd then walked up to the ‘great house’ where her brother and family lived. Decided to go inside the house and garden and were pleased we did. We were meeting JRs brother and sister in law at their house in petersfield later in the afternoon so just looked around the town until it was time to drive to them. Spent a pleasant few hours with them before getting slightly lost going home!
