Guarding the West Port
It just takes a minute to walk from the surgery to the West Port in St Andrews so at lunchtime I decided to have a look at one of the 30 large Scottie statues that are part of Scotties by the Sea. These have been decorated by different artists and are situated around St Andrews and other parts of North East Fife. They will be auctioned in November to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Charity.
This one is called “ Fit as a Butcher’s Dog “ and I will need to keep a look out for some of the others - more may appear on blipfoto !
The West Port was built in 1587 as a monumental entrance to South Street rather than as a defensive structure and having been refurbished in 1843 it has survived well as the one remaining gate into this medieval town.
