September 8
Lots going on around town this weekend, but not enough time to do everything.
We cleared off an area, spread 3 yards of soil and 2 yards of gravel in 4 hours this morning. By noon time the temperature was up to 27 C with a feel like temperature in the 30's. There is a heat warning out right now that will last into tomorrow. It's unusual, but not record breaking to get a heat wave warning in September.
One of the events happening is Fleet Week, and I heard there was going to be a flypast on the Halifax waterfront this afternoon so I headed down to the Dartmouth side to see it. It turned out to be a couple of helicopters that travel with the ships.
Grocery shopping and brought things home. Then called a friend to tell her about the snake that was in the house this morning. Peaches kept going in the coat closet this morning and looking around. I thought there might have been a bug on the floor that crawled under the bags. Then I saw something move and it was a snake! I grabbed the broom and was able to direct it toward the door, but not have the door open long enough for Peaches to decide to escape. I am going to call the landlord on Monday morning and tell him to get pest control over here, it is the second snake to get in the house this summer plus a mouse.
Because of the heat I didn't feel like cooking so I went and picked up a burger and a milkshake for supper. Drove out to Eastern Passage and sat in the truck to eat it while watching some birds along the shoreline.
I decided to go back downtown to get some photos of the ships in the harbour. There are some big ones there. This photo show one of the cruise ships that carries 3900 people. In the background in a container ship on its way into port. The container ship can carry over 20,000 containers, if they were lined up end to end, they would cover almost 100 km.
Off to the valley tomorrow to pick up some plants. Skipping brunch on Sunday so I can watch the sailpast of the ships taking part in Fleet Week.
