The mysteries of railway timetables

As part of the Heritage Open Days the Cambrian Heritage Railways took part so we went along.

We bought our train tickets and took the train to Weston Wharf Station hauled by the diesel engine Alun Evans blipped a few days ago.

We were given a timetable as we were due to catch a bus from the station.  F perused it and couldn't understand it so I had a look and couldn't work it out either.

When we got to Weston we asked a volunteer.  Hetook a look and couldn't undertsnd it so called another man over - he couldn't work it out either.  They called another volunteer over and between them all we worked the timings out.  It was so funny, I couldn't resist a photo!

We caught a 1950s bus which took us to Llynclys South Station where we got on a brake van hauled by a diesel shunter engine (extra) which took us for a short ride up the track and back again.

Back at LLynclys we went into the converted carriage now a buffet car and had a toastie with salad and a mug of tea.  We then caught the bus back to Weston where we looked round the Victorian goods shed with lots of old artifacts before catching the train back to Oswestry. We noticed that there was a simplified timetable written on a blackboard when we got there. They must have been sick of explining to passengers!

By the time we got back we were exhausted from the heat and it was hard walking back to F's house.  We were glad to sit down and have a drink in the cool before I came home
