Double Shot Mummy

Glowing reports!

Warning: Gloating, proud mummy alert!

In this photo, Bailee and Oscar had just demolished a pink and green mini cupcake as a treat for their glowing reports!

It was parent/teacher interviews today.... our first ever and we knew it would be a great experience, but not quite how huge our heads would swell. 3 seems quite young for a formal, written report as they got. But I was very impressed and heartened by how much focus there was on the emotional and social aspect of their development.

Both Oscar and Bailee are little stars and angelic in class. There are obviously a few 'tricks' they save just for mummy, (And sometimes daddy), at home. Bailee always puts her shoes on herself and is very good at following instructions.... She is more than capable but this is not always the case with me!

Oscar is a keen sportsman and is excelling in physical activity, (No surprise). They are both keen and doing well in PE. Bailee's strength is in Literacy. She is writing some letters now and her speech is excellent. She has a very good memory and they both adore listening to stories. They can both recognise a lot of letters and say the sounds. Oscar is enjoying tracing some letters. His concentration and enthusiasm in this area has improved greatly too.

As always, they both love numbers and shapes. Always have.

Most importantly of all to me is to hear how well balanced, happy and grounded they both are. In fact, their teacher said that they are two of the most grounded children she has taught.

The highlight for me was to hear that "Oscar always has a big smile on his face". That they both have good self esteem and are loved by their peers.

I was worrying about Oscar last week as he was being quite defiant, (Throwing things, purposely misbehaving at home for a reaction). I was wondering what I am doing wrong to make him want to do this but am feeling much more reassured now that he is so happy at his preschool.

The goals now are for Oscar to consistently use more complex sentences in his speech and for Bailee (As much as Miss Susan loves it), to break free from the teachers knee a little more.... Bailee just loves adult company. Always has.

So that's it. Sometimes I get agitated when people boast about their children's physical development as I believe in a more holistic approach to assessment. But, I feel Oscar and Bailee deserve to be boasted about today. They were developmentally behind for their whole first year due to being very premature and just look how far they have come.
