Nant Gwrtheyrn
Thursday 14th September 2023
Well, the forecast had been terrible for today but the weather was very kind to us - no rain and some sun. We did a tour of the Llyn Peninsular - Pwllheli marina, Abersoch, Aberdaron, Mortha Nefyn, Nant Gwrthyrn.
It was a lovely coastal drive with beautiful views. We stopped for a walk in Aberdaron, visited the church and had a drink in the cafe. Our picnic lunch was at Mortha Nefyn overlooking the bay.
On our way further North we spotted a viewpoint sign so had to investigate. We came to this car park but weren't entirely sure whether this was the view. A sign by the road, going past the car park, warned of a very steep and winding road for visitors to Nant Gwrtheyrn only. We weren't sure what that was but a quick search on the phone said heritage centre. That was enough for me to take up the enjoyment of a steep and winding road and it certainly was steep! We didn't see the heritage centre at the bottom, it looked more like a conference centre (it's both) but we had enjoyed the drive.
Shortly after I decided it was time to head back to our cottage. On the way we saw a sign to St Cybi's Well, so we did another diversion. We didn't know what we were looking for or how far it was. In the end we decided we'd missed it but we were getting tired and headed back to base. Having now looked it up we're going to try and find it tomorrow.
An enjoyable day and a bonus weather wise.
