For the family

Getting better!

The morning was spent contacting organisations and utilities to notify them of yesterday’s house sale and cancelling direct debits. B & I did it together to make sure there were no errors and that it was all documented. The first one tackled on line was a challenge. Anglian Water wouldn’t accept the information unless we agreed a contract at our new address. No ……your water pipes don’t reach Staffordshire !!!!

I ended up phoning them and within a couple of minutes a very helpful lady had sorted it all out and was able to tell us how much money we can expect to be refunded in the next 7 days. She did say that the website can be problematic for people moving out of area.

On the strength of that success, I rang all the other organisations. It is so nice, after you have got through the automated voice giving options of numbers to press, to speak to an actual living person!!! Everyone was so polite and helpful, it took next to no time.

We were due to join another wine tasting session with R & S this evening, but they couldn’t attend. B must be feeling much better than he did, because he was willing to go!!! It started at 6pm, so I did the ‘this is what you should wear’, ‘the taxi’s booked for 5.45’, ‘move or we will be late’. We have swapped roles as we have aged, I’m the time keeper now.

Following the event we walked into the town centre, all of a couple of hundred yards, to Weatherspoon’s for some food. Perfect tasty snack for that time of night. Prompt service, a chance to try a drop of the local brew and very inexpensive. I couldn’t have bought the ingredients and made it at home for that price.

I was uncertain which picture to blip, the chosen one showing that B is going out or the one in extras. We rang for a taxi to take us home and as we waited in the doorway I was taken by the patterns made by the ‘cobbles’ in the wet road, lit by street lights. This area has obviously been resurfaced in recent years and is beautifully done.

A most enjoyable evening.
