Another road save

This tiny, clearly newly hatched snapping turtle was wandering up the road from the long pond. I had walked down to see what it looked like pre-storm. Someone brought their tractor down and cleared away the beaver branches so the pond is running better.
I turned to leave and saw this little guy walking up ahead of me. It looked a little dry. I quickly scooped it up and carried it in my shirt. In this photo my hand is underneath it so you can tell how small it is.
I took it to one of our smaller ponds that has easy access and set it on the wet mud. It sat there a minute then bloop right into the water and under a leaf. It should be a good spot for it to burrow for the winter.
