Parkrun Adventure

We are completely bonkers of course. We were up just before 5am and had a quick, quiet bowl of cornflakes before leaving the bungalow and walking 30 minutes or so in the dark morning to the train station for the 6.07 in to Boston. From there we took the orange line T to Downtown Crossing then changed on to the red line which we rode to Porter Square, the next stop along from Harvard.

It took us a few moments to locate our route from the T station, but then we were on our way another twenty minutes or so, arriving at Danehy Park just fifteen minutes before the start of the Parkrun. The small team of volunteers was very welcoming and we were soon underway on the first of our three laps.  There were several sports pitches on the course and it was the first day of soccer try outs so a couple of hundred youngsters kicking numerous footballs around, some more skillfully than others, so at one point I niftily returned a loose ball as I jogged by to cries of 'Thank you Ma'am!'

It was a very young turnout and Tony and I reckoned we were the oldest by some years so I was running by myself for most of the course.  Tony achieved his best ever age percentage of 72%, which was also the best for today's participants. He took 25.07 minutes and I took 33.13.

At the end we got chatting to two young Aussie guys who were on holiday and they kindly offered to drive us to the cafe where the park runners gathered as it was some distance away. We had a lovely chat with them and swapped e mails as they intend visiting the UK in the next couple of years, then we were back on the T in to the centre of Boston.

We decided to walk to Quincy Market for lunch, always a favourite place to visit when we are here as there is such a wide selection of food on offer. We settled on sharing a tasty chicken burrito which set us up for our walk to the station where we discovered we had just missed the Rockport train and there wasn't another for two hours!

Time for a sit down with a cuppa in the newly opened food hub at the station, then I googled book stores and located one in the Italian quarter just ten minutes away.  It was a proper independent bookstore and we were able to pick up two more of the narwhal series which Euan is currently enjoying. Back to the station and eventually the 2.30 pulled in and we were able to board. It is a very slow train and takes an hour so we were soon dozing and slipping down the seat! Thankfully Euan, Mum and Dad were waiting for us at Gloucester station so we were saved the thirty minute walk home.  A full on, most enjoyable day visiting some familiar and some unfamiliar places.
