A cuckoo was about to fly out of its house to mark 1 o’clock on the Edinburgh Floral Clock which contains over 50,000 flowers and plants with 20 different varieties.  Each year a different theme is chosen for the design on the Edinburgh Floral Clock and this year marks the centenary of the Flying Scotsman, the world’s most famous steam locomotive.  Now the engine is used to haul The Northern Belle on luxury tours and one such tour was from York to Edinburgh last Thursday when a ticket cost £750!
Out of interest, I looked up the price for a similar time on a normal scheduled train next Thursday and discovered that First Class would cost £147.40 return which includes alcoholic drinks and a breakfast and evening meal.  For about an extra £600, the F S passengers would also have champagne and presumably gourmet meals served with silver service. If I was to do the journey it could be done Standard class for £73 giving a slightly shorter time in Edinburgh, and cheaper if booked well ahead, although I would have to take my own food and probably sit in a cramped train perhaps without a window view.   However for some people the journey on the Flying Scotsman would be well worth it as a memorable special event and apparently the trips throughout Britain are oversubscribed.
