The Aquarium

We first visited this fabulous aquarium when my niece, who married on Friday, was a toddler. Its main feature is a vast circular tank, four storeys high which houses a coral reef. There are countless species of fish which swim at the different levels but the highlight for Euan were the giant turtles.

It has been a horribly wet day and Tony and I booked the three of us in to the Aquarium.  We took the train in to Boston early doors with Rob, for whom it was a work day, walked halfway and paused for a second breakfast in the Thinking Cup Cafe before Rob left for his first meeting of the day and we continued on to the waterfront getting increasingly soggy.  Euan loved the seals in their large tank at the entrance and especially as one of them came up to have a good look at him!

Luckily we soon dried off and warmed up whilst we walked up the spiral ramp which circulates the giant tank with Euan spotting awesome fish at every turn. When we reached the top floor the top of the tank is open and we were fortunate to arrive when the divers were entering to check up on the cleanliness of the tank and to reintroduce some fish. Across the tank the giant turtles were being fed squid tacos in lettuce leaves. Euan was rapt watching the divers below us.

Afterwards we returned to the ground floor to look at the shark and ray tank. You are allowed to put your hand in the water and gently stroke the rays as they glide by.

Euan was flagging by this time so we decided to take the T back to North Station and so stay dry. He enjoyed his two underground trains and soon we were back on the train north where we were met by his Mum. It was a thirty minute walk back to the bungalow so we all got very wet!
