Unnecessary obsolescence

MountGrace’s mother used this steamer and bowl to make the family Christmas puddings for as long as anyone can remember. We inherited them and have continued the tradition. They are battered and corroded, but still pefectly capable of doing the job. However it suddenly occurred to me today that the aged aluminium steamer can’t be used on the induction cooktop in our new kitchen. So today I had to order a shiny new stainless steel replacement. It's a sad example of unnecessary obsolescence.
