Big Pit

Wet day today, so we opted to visit Big Pit which used to be a working coal mine, but is now a tourist attraction.  Big Pit was the real name given to the working colliery - it's not something just made up for tourists!

We had a quick wander around the site before venturing underground for what turned into over an hour of time being taken around the mine,  The guide was an ex-miner and he told some good stories about how things were in the mine.  It was interesting to see that the stalls for the pit ponies were still there - I guess it was in space that didn't need to be reused for anything.

After lunch in their canteen we had a wander about the pit baths exhibition before going into Blaenavon for tea, rainbow cake, and a wander around the exhibition.
