Rock House!
We were sorry to close up the cabin and head home, but we had one more adventurous hike to do!
This was another one Al and I had done several years ago with our daughter and her family, and I was happy to be able to return because it's such a unique place.
The trail started out pretty easy and downhill, so we were feeling pretty good. It was a one way trail out to the Rock House and then through the woods on a different route back....HAH!
There were very few people hiking there, and no one who was experienced in this area, so we read some maps and took off. There were a few tight and scary places, but we hiked slowly and made it safely to the stairway down to the Rock House.
Some people were coming back up the one way trail, so we were confused. They told us that after exploring the Rock House and trying to find where the trail continued forward, they gave up and took the same route back to the top of the ridge.
We finally climbed up into the cave, which was full of pigeons cooing and flying in and out! The room was huge, with several openings a story or more high. The main chamber was very dark with an uneven floor, but thankfully our phones had flashlights or we would have been tripping.
We all looked at other exit points, and there were none!!
We climbed out of the cave and headed back on the only trail we could find, shaking our heads at all the signs that said "Wrong way, turn around". I have no idea where we should have gone, but the trail was scary enough without looking for another one!
We filled everyone in as we passed people going toward the House so they didn't feel bad about coming back that way. It was a book-end hike to the first one we did, and we were proud of ourselves again for accomplishing it!!
Not bad for three people in their sixties and one seventy-year-old!
