Troubled Crown

I wanted to make the best of the last few hours before our late afternoon flight. Mum took herself off shopping. Chris and I did the full hop on hop off bus tour again in the sunshine. I took loads of photos this time, particularly if the wall murals.

We all checked out at lunchtime and headed to The Crown also known as the Liquor Saloon. It’s situated in Great Victoria Street and is owned by the National Trust. It’s still lit with gas light mantles. There’s lots of mosaic tile decoration and a red granite topped bar.

The establishment is famous for its ten wooden booths, built to accommodate the pub's more reserved customers during the Victorian period. There are gun metal plates for striking matches and an antique bell system for alerting staff. Extra privacy was then afforded by the pub's etched and stained glass windows which feature painted shells, fairies, pineapples, fleurs-de-lis and clowns. I was delighted that we got to sit in one of these and enjoy a drink with our lunch before we went home.
