Eye contact

When was the last time you had eye contact with someone? This  performance artist in Glasgow offers strangers the opportunity to sit and stare into her eyes for one minute.


And they are queuing up to do so.
 
I ask one young girl why.
She said:” I never make eye contact with anyone. I am going to challenge myself.”
 
This resonates with a discussion we had this morning over coffee after our dance class. Our dance artist mentions she works with young people in a socially deprived area.
 
She has noticed a new problem since Covid: young people will not make eye contact “ because they spend so much time on social media.  They don’t know how to communicate except through their screens.”
