Look Carefully

This guy in red is on a motorized stand-up paddle board, something I’ve never seen before. He zooms along quite nicely, seemingly on a stick a couple feet above the water—no need to wait for waves to get a ride. There’s a fin under the water, and I assume that’s where the motor is as well.  I don’t know what that little pod of student surfers thought of the whole thing; they were just hanging out waiting for the tide while he ran circles around the bay.

We also saw a kingfisher, another first for me along this beach, but I didn’t have a zoom-enough lens to prove it. What a distinctive shape they have!

The readings on the PurpleAir site were still bad, but we couldn’t stand staying in the house for another day. We figured if it was breezy and by the ocean it couldn’t be all that bad. It never has smelled of smoke, and no one else looked like they even thought about wearing a mask.
