On guard

Today we landed on an ice floe - sea ice 3m thick and several years old. Even so it was cracking round the edges which was exciting. The naturalists had spotted several polar bears as they were scouting as this is perfect polar bear territory,. So we were surrounded by armed guards whose job is to spot and scare away the bears with flares. The wind chill temperature was minus 12 C so I couldn’t have worn more clothes if I had tried!
