Beaufort Sea

We have left the North West Passage and are heading south west towards the Canadian coast across the Beaufort Sea.

What’s the difference between an ocean and a sea? I didn’t know. For oceanographers an ocean is thousands of meters deep and the bottom is an ocean crust made from the bodies of sea creatures that died and drifted to the bottom. A sea is much shallower water on top of a continental shelf, which is the same composition as the land above the water line. So we are in relatively shallow water which freezes easily and is indeed mostly thin sea ice.

I’ve shown you a lot of ice already so I thought I would show you a few images from inside the ship. The main image shows some of the bars and restaurants. The first extra has some of the cosier sitting areas including our cabin. The ship is full of beautiful objects. The second extra has a few round ones. There is something for everyone on board, so the third extra has the gym, the brandy and cigar lounge, and the shop :-)
