Calm before Agnes
Owing to the impending arrival of Agnes we went to Grasmere this morning , first for a coffee at Emma’sDell and then a brisk walk along the shores of Grasmere and the opportunity for today’s blip.
The weather apps said rain would start at 12noon. And it did. We made it back to the car before it tipped down, driving the half mile to the Swan Inn for lunch with Adam and Jane. We were going to walk to Wordsworth’s Dove cottage too but went in the car.
Quite enjoyed the visit. Dove Cottage was a little disappointing. It’s hard to recreate the “just lived in” feeling. There needed to be more help in interpreting each room.
The relatively new museum was very interesting, simply organised into various themes. His life and what influenced his poetry, his radical writing about ordinary people, his love of the Lake District and his Wordsworth calls for us to reconnect with nature, show empathy for others and try to bring happiness to everyone you come into contact with.
He asks that we show empathy for others.
He encourages us to nurture our creative imagination.
I was taken with his Lyrical Ballads which portray the ordinary folk and shows feelings, ambition and well being are not the preserve of the wealthy. The only trouble is that, try as. I might, I just cannot read poetry and understand it.
Heavy rain continued until early evening. It’s meant to be blustery out there. It doesn’t souls like from where we are sitting. Quite a change from this morning’s calm reflections.
Thank you for today’s comments, hearts and stars. It seems many of you are enjoying these insights in to our visit.
