High Pike, Northern Fells
The weather promised sunshine and showers. We had the odd spat of rain without any of the promised sunshine.
Today’s route was from Mosedale Common beside Carrock Beck up a long slope of varying gradients to the top of Carrock Fell then along the broad ridge to High Pike.
Only a few people about today, saw the most on the Cumbrian Way at High Pike. We thought a large group would be ensconced in the summit shelter. They only stopped for a photo before moving on and allowing us to have our lunch in the shelter of the cairn.
Most of the others we saw were either fell runners or mountain bikers. Today’s blip is from the top of High Pike during one of the clearer spells of the day.
All in all, a very enjoyable walk, with two Wainwrights, only 5.6 miles and back down and in the Fox Tap in Brewery Street, Keswick by 3.30pm.
I enjoyed reading all your comments about Wordsworth and poetry. I only wish I could make more sense of it. I only thought afterwards that I should have asked how his poetry should be read.
Storm Agnes came and went with little impact on the area overnight. Perhaps we may have a better day tomorrow with more sunshine than showers.
That destruction of the sycamore tree on Hadrian’s Wall came as an absolute shock and is devastating. Why would someone want to do such a thing? It looks as if the perpetrator knew what he? was doing with a chainsaw.
The extra is at the wind blown summit of Carrock Fell
