On look out

Up early for brekky at our mountain lodge - no chance of a lie in here!
Everyone was out on the trail by 8.30 - the group we met yesterday have 2 more days of walking but they seemed happy enough!
We headed up away to the ridge and back to the stunning panorama. We followed the ridge up and down for a couple of hours - our highest peak was at 2600 metres. There’s still plenty of evidence left from the war - trenches, lookout points , store rooms, even barbed wire. There are now markers along the route showing the border - I on one side, O (Austria) on the other - just in case you get confused. We eventually left the ridge to make our decent. A long steep, painful 1700 metres. Actually the first couple of hours or so were fine, but it went on and on! I finally resorted to listening to a podcast to distract me - which did help! So, we arrived back at base at 4pm - a long day but absolutely worth the effort.
