Hamsterley Sculptures

Today we travelled a short distance to Hamsterley Forest for a more traditional orienteering event. A long 2km walk to the start and back from the finish with a steep climb onto the moor. We were warned about mountain bikers and did indeed need to take evasive action as a group hurtled down the rock strewn track.

Not a day for fast runs as the heather was hard work. Accuracy with the compass was the order of the day as was trying to use the shorter heather to best advantage.

These carvings marked the way to the start. A good journey home just missing a heavy shower as we unloaded the car.
