Day 11, Our longest drive so far

A quiet and comfortable night behind the sports centre. We popped into the local supermarket for some milk, and spent over 50 Euros, just like at home! I do love French supermarkets with their excellent foodstuffs, fresh and/or local! I found an up-to-date Michelin map book there too and Jan gloried in knowing exactly where we were as we drove, until we left France and got into Spain.
As we look forward to meeting friends and reaching Portugal we put in some extra effort and did nearly 600 kms today.
Before setting off we had joked that we would drive further if it rained and we wouldn’t want to stop. Today we learned that hot weather gives the same effect! It was a comfortable 24C in the van with the AC cooling us as we drove along. When we stopped the 33C felt pretty heavy! So we kept driving until the sun was near the horizon and the outside temp was sinking.
We also chose the toll motorway to get past the cities near the border. Well worth it to avoid a long string of town centres, with their (understandable) 30 kmh limits.
Spain is so different to France. I’ve not travelled here so much and was surprised by the arid flatness of the country, once we left the mountains.
So, just before dark we pulled into a grassy area next to a river, Rio Tera, on the edge of a small village.
Soon we sleep, then perhaps a quick swim in the morning before we set of for a relatively short drive into Portugal and meet up with the old friends we recently saw in Sweden!
