Gargeti Trinity Church...

Set off early today heading out to Mtskheta, past the Zhinvalli reservoir and on along the Georgian Military Highway.Did part of the journey by coach, but then transferred to 4 x 4 vehicles. Had a delicious lunch at the quirky but wonderful Rooms Hotel at Kazbegi, then carried on to Gergeti Trinity Church which was built in the 14th century, under Mount Kazbegi. It was a beautiful and exciting journey through spectacular scenery. Although we made the journey up the steep pathway by 4 x 4, the locals walked, some of them barefoot. In the evening we went to a lovely restaurant in Tblisi, where we had an excellent meal. Normally there would have been music and dancing at this restaurant, but that was cancelled due to the tragic deaths yesterday of 7 Georgian soldiers in a suicide bomb attack in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Our thoughts were with them and their loved ones...
