Georgian traditional dancers...
Today we visited the winegrowing areas in Eastern Georgia, where the scenery was very different to the dramatic mountain landscapes of yesterday and was much more reminiscent of Italy or the south of France. We visited the Tsinandali region, stopping at the Cathedral of St George at Alaverdi then at the Alexander Chavchavadze Museum. A lovely feature of today's trip was that we were offered wines to taste at every place we came to, along with delicious cheese and nibbles. Lunch was at Schuchman's Winery, where we were also shown how traditional Georgian wine is made in large clay jars. Dinner was in the Pheasant's Tears restaurant in the very picturesque little town of Signaghi, where the locals were having a fun Saturday night driving round the cobbled streets on Quad bikes, supervised by a rather grumpy looking policeman, also on a Quad bike. Over dinner we were treated to traditional Georgian singing and dancing, and the dnacers kindly posed for me...
