Fountains at Versailles
Got up early in order to make the most of the day at Versailles. Still spent quite a while in the queue but never mind. The palace is fairly spectacular, incredibly ornate and unbelievably decadent. So many chandeliers. The hall of mirrors was quite exciting (as history students we've learnt about the Treaty of Versailles a few times). Mairead loves Louis XIV so I had my own guided tour of random facts about Louis. For instance he thought he had very nice, shapely legs, which according to all the portraits seems fairly accurate.
Becky joined us to go round the rather beautiful gardens. There's currently musical fountain displays going on. We expected them all to be timed to music but only one was. It was really good so we watched it 3 times. It even included a fleur de lis made from the water. It was still nice walking round the fountains whilst classical music played.
Next we went to Le Petit Trianon and Le Grand Trianon which are mini châteaus in the grounds of Versailles. As if the place wasn't massive enough. It was easier to imagine someone living in them as there was less gold about the place.
A really nice day, would've been slightly better if it wasn't so cloudy but can't have everything.
