Middle Fork Nooksack - Historic Sluething

I'm really going to have to start my photo blog of floodplain stumps here sometime soon. Doing primary stream and river restoration in the PacNW its amazing how many times I encounter similar scenes. This was found in a floodplain channel on the Lower Middle Fork Nooksack. Picture this scene with a forest of old growth conifers 8- to 10-ft in diameter and over 200-ft tall and one begins to realize why so many streams and rivers have significantly changed for the worse in the last century...
