Elwha River - Lower river restoration
While the dam removal construction is on hold while the water treatment plant intake is being modified, the Lower 'Klallam Tribe is continuing to restore habitat in the lower river. The purpose of the project is to create pools and off channel habitat that will provide refuge for aquatic species while sediment and wood debris from the reservoirs is mobilized by the river.
This is picture of an ELJ we designed and helped construct last year. It's amazing to see how the river channel is changing with all the sediment and wood debris being deposited. It may look a little messy but it means the river is one step closer to being much healthier than it has been in recent history.
