OLIVES
Went to Neils this afternoon as the buses are running again this week ( however another strike is planned from 14th to 20th October ) I did some shopping in Lidl first and then walked by the River Derwent to get to Neils.
When I arrived Luna was very excited. After she had calmed down and I looked around I saw that one of the sofas in the front room was missing. And when Neil came downstairs I spotted a bandaged finger. The two things were connected.
The sofa had been damaged by Luna when she younger and into chewing everything so they decided to get the Council to take it away --- together with a double mattress they didn't need any more. The Council were due to collect this morning. So Neil and Rachael managed to wiggle the mattress past the bannister at the bottom of the stairs and out the front door to leave it in front of the house for collection. However the sofa just wouldn't go out no matter what they did. So they manoeuvred it out into the kitchen towards the back door. However on the way it hit a glass table in the kitchen and the glass shattered into thousands of pieces. One of them caught Neil on the finger --- blood and glass everywhere. Neil bandaged his finger up and continued trying to get the sofa out of the door. Rachael had to stop helping and try and sweep up every bit of glass in case Luna got any in her paws ( she was late for work as she had to spend so long doing it ).
Neil manhandled the sofa on his own into the back garden and " tossed " it over the back fence into the street. ( No idea how ! ). Then he went out the front door and walked round the block to where the sofa was and proceeded to haul it round the corner to his front garden to await the council truck. Job done. Not a great start to the day for either of them but alls well that ends well. ( Luckily they aren't too bothered about the broken table)
I stayed with Luna -- and Neil - for around 2hrs then I got a bus to the Metrocentre. Wasn't there long - just got a few things in Poundland. Then another bus home.
The Tiny Tuesday challenge today is " fruit and vegetable ". I got a pot of lemon and herb olives in Lidl so decided to use them for my blip. I was going to describe them as a vegetable but then I remembered that they are actually a fruit. They belong to a group of fruit called drupes or stone fruits and are related to mangoes, cherries, peaches, almonds and pistachios.. However due to the olives savoury taste they are rarely used in any form of sweet cooking. ( although of course olive oil can be used in sweet dishes such as cakes or even ice cream ). Thanks to Pinkhairedlady for hosting.
Thank you to everyone who commented on my special blip yesterday. I was delighted to find it had reached Number 1 on the Popular page.... and its still there.
