Flying home

Our final day.

Tidying up, packing, grabbing a final splash in the pool, returning the mobility scooter, taxi to the airport. We had a final bite to eat in Pepe's restaurant in the bungalow complex before parting company as he trundled ahead of us and saw us to our taxi. The trip to the airport was interesting mainly because of the very noticeable increase in the number of wind turbines along the route, but also because there were clouds in the sky and it was quite dull for the first time since we got here.

Our flight was scheduled for 20:25, but was delayed. The departure gate wasn't even displayed until some time after we'd been brought to the departure area. An Irish couple were sitting near us waiting for the same flight and the husband was very distressed because of the situation. Boarding finally happened (special assistance was excellent) and then the usual announcements were made while we sat and sat on the tarmac. The pilot had earlier told us that he hoped to make up most of the delay time on the way, but came back on later to explain that the we'd be further delayed because of problems with the a fuelling truck.

All of this meant that we didn't get back home until around 2:00 am. Mind you, the flight would have been lots worse without being able to watch Wes Anderson's extraordinary film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which we'd downloaded before leaving home.
