Sunny seaside Sunday
Another beautiful, warm day. We went to Hythe to see if we could scrounge any more blue mushroom boxes, which are often stacked up behind a pub-restaurant for anyone who can use them to take away. They are very useful for garden produce, as they stack perfectly and are ventilated. P has just filled our existing supply with 42 kilos of onions, and we still have most of the potatoes to lift and store. The quest was very fruitful: we took away 26 crates, which was all we could fit in the car around J.
The promenade was full of opportunities for people watching. We went to the quiet end, towards Sandgate, but there were still lots of dog walkers, toddling toddlers, people drinking tea outside their camper vans, bikers and cyclists drinking outside the small café, and all kinds of people enjoying the beach, swimming, paddle boarding, fishing, picnicking, or just sitting in the sun. It's impossible not to enjoy this amazing October weather, and also impossible to see these scenes without feeling we are all fiddling as Rome burns, knowing these temperatures are far too high and the sea is still far too warm but largely avoiding thinking about what these rising global temperatures mean for people in more vulnerable parts of the world and ultimately for us all.
