Before... (Friday 13th October 2023)

When the outbuilding pipes burst in the big freeze last December, the project manager from the insurance company told me that he would enlist a team to make reparations to the music room and adjoining toilet. Somehow, when someone else took over the case the following spring, the bit about the toilet seems to have got lost.

I was repeatedly chasing up the work and gradually things progressed: dehumidifiers installed, written-off items taken away, other items salvaged and stored indoors, music room redecorated, payments received for replacing ruined items and new flooring, but nothing happening with regards to the plumbing.

The insurance company have taken responsibility for their error and tasked me with appointing someone to do the work. I have had a few quotes, all very similar, and work should begin on Monday and be completed by the end of the week. Fingers crossed.

This afternoon the firm from Marlborough who six years ago fitted the music room underlay and carpet came to advise on the new flooring.

Motörhead - Rockaway Beach (Demo recorded 2002)
This morning I was listening to Desert Island Discs on Radio 4. The guest was Greg Jackson, the CEO of Octopus Energy, I think, and this was one of his choices. Although Lemmy of Motörhead was regarded as a proponent of the new wave of British heavy metal that started in the mid-seventies, whereas the Ramones, who were formed around the same time were regarded as part of the later onslaught of American punk, Lemmy always considered himself and the Ramones, who he admired, as simply rock and roll.
The Ramones recorded Rockaway Beach for their album Rocket To Russia in 1977. Motörhead's cover was demoed in 2002 but wasn't released until after Lemmy's death, on the album Under Cöver in 2017. It ties in quite nicely with the backnumber of Mojo (February 2017) I'm currently working my way through as it largely features heavy metal and its cover CD is Heavy Nuggets Vol. 4.
