Welcome to Easton
I went over early to feed and let out my friend’s hens. Her house is just beyond the mural. I’ve driven past this a couple of times, but today there was an opportunity to stop and take a proper look.
It’s in Devon Rd, and was commissioned by the owner of the house, who asked the artist to paint something happy. The mural painter, Andrew Colwill has other work around Bristol - usually the environment and the climate are featured. He says this was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, and by the Grand Iftar celebrations (a street party to celebrate the end of Ramadan) which are hosted by the Easton mosque in St Marks Road - a feast for Bristolians of all creeds and none. The message is peace, diversity, community and friendship. People from the different communities are sitting down to eat together, and the mosque and the church are shown in the background.
After the hens I went back over to south Bristol and got my covid jab. Immaculately organised by the health centre staff as ever. No side effects so far….
