Up high at Lowgill
After a lie in and a late start at chez BB (yours truly & her fam' rather than their more up & awake guest!), Biscuit & Fidra took their riders oop North over the Forest of Bowland and into the Yorkshire Dales, where Ms.Arell took us to Ooh & Aah at the beautiful old Lowgill Viaduct.
She explained how it was built to provide a route between Scotland & London, but as was the nature of railways back in the 1800s, competition from other lines saw it become a mere branch line that eventually closed in 1957. It's intended use explains it's grandeur though and is now grade 2 listed and well preserved.
Popping across the border into Cumbria, we had late lunch and said our Ta Ra's 'til next time at Tebay Services. Lovely Lass headed up the Northbound M6 home to Scotland & your Gal along the Southbound carriageway home to outer Mcr...and Brrr it got chilly!
Extras are Fidra & Biscuit, a fuller pic of Lowgill, and of Mrs.Flums muse - a grainy (it was dark!) pic of the very retrofuturistic Pennine Tower (also grade 2 listed) at Lancaster (née Forton) Services ^_^
