Lost Puffins
After yesterdays lazy, weather impacted day - we ended up doing LOADS on Tuesday. After breakfast we headed along the road to Diabaig to do a few quick routes on the Beginner Slabs. We then shot around to Shieldaig for lunch and to join the fabulous Loch Torridon Sea Tours. This was a three hour tour of the Upper Loch, Loch Diabaig and the outer Loch. I really wanted to see the Sea Eagles that nest on Shieldaig island, but they must have been away hunting. We did however see loads of other sea birds including razorbills, guillemots, gannets, eider ducks, black throated divers, shags and cormorants. We also saw grey seals and wild goats on the shoreline. We also saw a large number on puffins out on the water, which is a rare sight on Loch Torridon as they don't nest in the area. They must have flown all the way from the Shiants looking for food, which is not a good sign. The whole thing was excellent and I'd highly recommended it to anyone in the area.
Once back on dry land we shot off around the coast road to Applecross. After pitching the tent we made a bee line to the brilliant Applecross Inn of a seafood feast. We were lucky enough to get the last bowl of Langoustine, which made MrsB very happy. Watched the sunset after dinner, well mostly set - this time of year it takes forever to set,
Amazing day.
