The Basilica of St Frances of Assisi

Cloudy and cooler today. No sunshine and blue skies for the first time in over 2 weeks. Up early as we wanted to have breakfast with the rest of our parish group and wave them off to the airport. Mr P and I then packed our bags (again) and set off for Assisi on the train. The last time we were here was about 30 years ago and I was worried that it too might have been overwhelmed by tourism but it was blissfully quiet after Rome’s hustle and bustle. Such a wonderful town and this Basilica with its magnificent frescoes is the icing on the cake. We spent most of the afternoon in it and the Basilica of Santa Chiara (another beautiful church) and also climbed the town bell tower (deafening) for great views. Smaller meal and no wine tonight. Feeling tired after all the excess of recent days.
