Unexpected pears
I was wandering round the garden in the sunshine, walking past the ornamental weeping pear tree when I did a double take. Most of the leaves have dropped by now but what were these bright green things hanging from the branches? Not pears, surely! But yes, they were. This tree has never borne fruit before so it was a very pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, the fruit isn’t edible, being a bit hard and bitter. But isn’t it ironic that none of our fruit trees have any fruit this autumn because of some very hard frost just after blossom time in the spring, yet this tree has produced its inedible fruit inedible fruit for the first time!
