Another New Plant

Walking the dogs this morning I found a load of these flowers and seed heads. The flowers look like dandelions and the seed heads look like thistles.

I believer this to be Sow Thistle and judging by the leaves (extra) I think it is Prickly Sow Thistle. Apparently the leaves are edible, although it is recommended to trim the spines with scissors before consumption!!

Also found on Google - It got the name Sow Thistle from the fact that, when cut, the plant exudes a latex like milk which was believed to help lactation in mothering sows.

The canine visitors are due to go home later today….I think they will be glad of a rest…they have walked 32 miles in 11 days with me!!
