Firenze
This is the iconic panorama of Florence from Piazza Michelangelo. The Ponte Vecchio across the River Arno is on the left. The tower in left centre is Palazzo Vecchio. Right centre is Giotto’s bell tower and Brunelleschi’s Dome, and on the right is the church of Santa Croce.
In the late afternoon we went to the Academia Museum to see Michelangelo’s David, arguably the greatest marble sculpture ever made. No photograph could do it justice, so this humble blipper won’t even try. It is jaw droppingly beautiful in sutu! We saw the other two ‘exact’ copies today and they are just not the same. Ain’t nothin’ like the real thing.
