Homeward bound!
And their final day! Jon had a plan - up at 7 and out by 8. His plan was spot on, and their journey south from Dunfermline began - with a 7 and a half hour non-stop drive ahead of them.
Jon only planned 2 stops - the first just before Newcastle for coffee, then a lunch stop at Blyth Services (one of our favourites) for a luxury lunch- M&S sandwiches!
They pulled up here in North Norfolk at 4.40pm barely 10 minutes after Cathy. Tea was already in the pot, so timed perfectly. We chatted, drank tea and took photos. So lovely to see and hear them buzzing with their stories. I had made a curry which we enjoyed together, followed by some of the delicious apple pie made by Andy and Cath's old neighbours Annette and John, who they met up with yesterday at the Travelodge. The remainder is going home for Keith!
At just after 6, we said our goodbyes, and they all piled into Cathy's car. It is going to be a late night to bed for all of them, with a further drive for Martin after that.
It's clear this trip has inspired conversation, triggered lots of business ideas, and forged friendships. I'm excited to hear more details from Jon, and keen to start planning our own version of this iconic trip.
And here my NC500 journal ends, and boring old life of the pensionspoet returns. Thanks for joining me on this journey. I'm going to have to start doing something pretty exciting, to keep my readers interested!!
