Kinkaku - the "Golden Pavilion"

So many beautiful places from which to choose today, but this one is exceptional set on a wooded hillside high above Kyoto.
It stands in the grounds of the Kitajama Palace. Also known as the "Shanden" the Golden Pavilion is stunning, gilded with gold leaf, and overlooking a beautiful lake full of carp.
The original was set alight and burned to the ground in 1950, but faithfully reconstructed in 1955.
