A little adventure
Instead of going home after the Oxfam shop today, I got the bus to the station - which was looking especially lovely, lit up in blue, I don’t know why. See extra. Then I got the train for just 12 minutes to Bath Spa (except my train was 25 mins late - but I had plenty of time).
I met my friend G in Toppings bookshop for a sold out event to hear and see Elly Griffiths talking about her life, writing, and latest book. Which is the 7th in her Brighton series. As I’ve only just read the 14th in her Ruth Galloway series I’ve a lot of catching up to do! She was fabulous and hit exactly the right balance between pride in what she has achieved, and witty honesty. We both enjoyed seeing her very much.
Bath is delightful in the evenings - most of the city is pedestrianised - I wish her neighbour down the road, Bristol, could manage a bit of that. And in the evening it’s fairly quiet, just a few people walking about, but it feels safe. And quite a lot of the beautiful buildings are lit up to show them off. This is the Abbey and the Pump Room . I like the big space as well - a bit like a town in Italy would have. So few English places have a big piazza type space - a lot of our cities seem to prioritise cars and shops, neither of which I’m keen on.
