Between fen and mountains

Thomas Hardy

I went to the church this morning to print out some sheets and prepare for the service on Sunday. Someone had left several boxes of books outside the door knowing that we have an English library. What they did not know is that we can no longer take any more books and that applies to several other organisations. I rescued a few titles as they were really a lovely selection of quality hardbacks and paperbacks, not just because they were in unused or excellent condition, but because they were serious reference books and novels, not the normal range of crime thrillers and page turners that we usually receive. This poetry book has 71 of Hardy's poems, each with a lovely water colour print on the opposite page.  I also picked up an 1899 hardback edition of Edward Fitzgerald's translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
